Meet Sophie Zener
Sophie is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #164620) practicing under the supervision of Laura Firestone (LMFT #18956). She works with individuals and couples in person in San Francisco and virtually throughout California. Her career began with researching couples and relationships as an undergraduate at UCLA, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology. She went on to complete her graduate studies at the University of San Francisco, earning an M.A. in Counseling Psychology.
Sophie’s Specialties
Sophie specializes in couples and relationship work, identity exploration and development, sex and intimacy, perfectionism and self-criticism, and life transitions. In her work with couples, Sophie helps partners recognize the patterns that keep them feeling disconnected and develop new ways of relating to one another. She helps couples work toward building a relationship where both partners feel understood and secure.
Background & Personal Interests
Sophie incorporates evidence-based approaches, including attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). She has completed the EFT Externship, foundational training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Sophie recognizes that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach; she tailors each session to meet her clients’ unique goals and needs.
Outside of the therapy room, Sophie enjoys taking hot yoga classes, connecting with friends, and unwinding at home with her two cats, Frank and George.
